Financial Analysts

The corporate sector’s multiplying challenges calls for specialisation -- A Certified Financial Analyst (‘CFA’) is comparatively new in the field. The Financial Analysts role focuses primarily on financial analysis while the CA focuses on financial accounting, taxation and costing, the Cost and Works Accountant on accounting and management costs and the Company Secretary on company law. Even MBAs who have specialized in Financial Management would do well to go in for a CFA for this is more a practitioner’s course. It is a training programme in corporate finance, financial services and investment management.

Nature of Work

Corporate finance

Corporate finance deals with conceptual and technical inputs in the areas of Indian Financial System, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Financial Management, Advanced Financial Management and International Financial Management.

Investment management

Investment Management is based on analysis with inputs from Economics, Quantitative Techniques, Economic Legislation for the Securities Industry, Security Evaluation and Investment Management.

Financial services

Financial services involve Project Planning, Venture Capital, Leasing, Hire Purchase, Factoring, New Issue Management, Credit Rating and other allied areas.

Employment Avenues

Openings for CFA's are available in the Banking, Insurance, Corporate Sectors, Finance and Leasing Companies. The course has been recognized by the Indira Gandhi National Open University as equivalent to Master’s Degree for admission to Ph.D Programmes in Management. Railways, RBI, IDBI, UTI, ICICI and IFCI have recognized the efficacy of the program.
